October is an exciting time of year along the Grand Strand. The summer season has officially come to a close, but the weather is still warm and sunny, and there are quite a few beach days left to be had. On top of that, Halloween is on its way, and the South Carolina coast is steeped in ghost legends and pirate lore. Take a step back in history (and experience some spine-tingling fun) on one of these ghost tours during your autumn visit to the Myrtle Beach area.

The Brentwood Restaurant Ghost Dinner and Tour

Built in the early 1900s and recently featured on A&E’s Biography Channel, The Brentwood Restaurant offers Lowcountry French cuisine with a side of spooky thrills. Strange happenings at this Little River establishment include:

  • Dark shadows passing by windows and through the upstairs fireplace
  • Ghostly faces peering through an upstairs window
  • Multiple orbs in digital photos
  • Ashtrays and wine glasses mysteriously falling off tables
  • Equipment starting by itself
  • A small child appearing in the surveillance cameras

The Brentwood Restaurant was voted one of the Top 10 Most Haunted Restaurants in the US by answers.com, and is located at 4269 Luck Avenue in Little River, close to North Myrtle Beach. Storyteller Mike Neff will guide you through the house, its history, and recent sightings of spirits wandering the restaurant. Ghost tours are 45 minutes long, and start after the three-course dinner and dessert. Tickets are $50 and reservations can be made online. Visit their website for more information and the events calendar.

The Marshwalk Pirate Lady

Join the Marshwalk Pirate Lady, local resident Christine Vernon, on a 60-minute walking tour of the Murrells Inlet Marshwalk, just south of Myrtle Beach. Hear spooky tales of the ghost of Blackbeard the pirate, who pillaged the Carolina coast until his violent death in 1718, the tragic love story of Alice Flagg, and the infamous Gray Man who warns of incoming hurricanes. Reservations are required, and tickets are $10 per person, with children 8 and under free. Call 843-655-4470 to reserve your spot. Tours begin at the Lazy Gator at 7:30PM, Wednesdays through Saturdays, weather permitting.

Conway Ghost Walk: Spirits of the Lowcountry

On this spooky yet fun Ghost Walk, a group of professional storytellers in Victorian costume will weave haunting tales while strolling through the streets of Historic Conway. Tours are 60 minutes long, and run every 15 minutes from 6:30PM through 8:30PM. Tickets are $15 for adults and $7 for children 12 and under, and can be purchased at the box office located at 428 Main Street in Conway.
