While the Myrtle Beach area is already packed with excitement, visitors can look forward to a few new and unusual attractions popping up each summer season. Take Broadway at the Beach, for example. This popular Grand Strand destination features unique places to eat, shop, play, and enjoy live entertainment. And this year, there are some pretty cool additions to the mix. Here are four of our favorites. Be sure to check them out during your next vacation!

TopGolf

If you follow our blog, you may have already heard about Topgolf. It’s the place to be this summer for golf, games, food, and fun!

Simpsons in 4-D Theatre

Last year, the first ever Kwik-E-Mart opened at Broadway at the Beach, and fans of the Simpsons went wild! This immersive, fully themed convenience store offered vacationers the chance to try Buzz Cola, Heat-Lamp Hotdogs, Lard Donuts, and other iconic items from the show. This year, The Simpsons in 4D opened at Springfield’s Aztec Theatre next door. Join Homer, Bart, Lisa, and Maggie at this new, ticketed attraction!

Tipsy Scoop and The Doughnuttery

Located inside the candy palace known as It’s Sugar, The Doughnuttery is an innovative new doughnut shop, featuring mini doughnuts with an insanely sweet toppings bar. Guests can mix and match flavors with over 25 sugar flavors. To make thing even more sweet, Tipsy Scoop is serving up liquor-infused ice cream, sorbets, sundaes, and pints, as well as non-alcoholic options. Cocktail-inspired ice cream flavors include Dark Chocolate Whiskey Salted Caramel, Vanilla Bean Bourbon, and Cake Batter Vodka Martini.

Bodies: Human Anatomy in Motion

This exhibit exposes the inner workings of human anatomy by presenting over 100 actual human specimens, including organs and full bodies, in a compelling, artful environment. Specimens are preserved through a polymer impregnation process that replaces fluids with polymers that prevent decay and decomposition.

Appropriate for all ages, guests will get to learn more about their own bodies by witnessing these fascinating artifacts up close and personal.

Travel and Leisure recently reported on a study from The Journal of Nutrition, Health and Aging that proves taking a vacation now and then is just as important for your health as eating right and getting enough exercise. In fact, it may even help you (and your loved ones) live longer! We’ve already told you that taking a trip with your girlfriends is also good for your health, and the most important girl in your life is undoubtedly your mom. With Mother’s Day just around the corner, why not plan a vacation on the Grand Strand with the woman who brought you into the world? After all, it’s a scientific fact that quality time together is good for both of you!

Here are a few more reasons to take a trip with your mother.

You will be making memories.

Remember when you were a kid, and you made your mom a macaroni necklace on her special day? She was so touched; she made you believe she cherished that gift almost as much as she cherished you. While it was incredibly thoughtful at the time, you’re all grown up now, and probably don’t get to see your mom as often as you did way back when. Instead of buying or making her a DIY gift this year, it’s time to make some special memories for her to cherish — just the two of you. While a crocheted scarf or wooden trivet is lovely, we guarantee you that spending time with you is at the top of her wish list!

You will get to know her better.

Now that you are both older, your relationship has surely evolved. Taking a vacation with your mother gives you a rare opportunity to really get to know the amazing woman she is. And it will allow her to see the incredible person you have become, thanks to her. With uninterrupted time together, you will be able to catch up away from distractions and your busy schedules. You will learn things about her life and the history of your family. You will have once-in-a-lifetime conversations that will stay with your forever. And you may just find you have a lot more in common with your mom than you thought.

You will have fun!

Vacations let you unwind, relax, and have fun. Imaging going on a helicopter adventure with your mom, or learning to shag dance at Fat Harold’s Beach Club. Take a surfing lesson, snap some photos with your favorite celebrities at the Hollywood Wax Museum, shop ‘til you drop at Barefoot Landing, or simply go for an evening stroll on the beach in search of seashells. Think of the things you’ll cross of your bucket lists! The Grand Strand really is the perfect destination for a family vacation.

Darius, Dean, Mark and Soni remain true to their philanthropic roots in hosting this one-of-a-kind event.

4th Annual Horry County Fair

Taking place at the Myrtle Beach Speedway, highlights include character meet and greets, a petting zoo, NASCAR racing, and pig racing, too!

37th Annual North Myrtle Beach Easter Egg Hunt

Spring wouldn’t be quite complete without an egg hunt! Once again, the Easter Bunny will make a special visit to McLean Park in North Myrtle Beach to hand out candy and to pose for photos. The egg hunt begins at 10AM sharp, and is divided into areas by age, with more fun to follow.

14th Annual Myrtle Beach International Film Fest

April 23-27, 2019

We’ve been told the Myrtle Beach International Film Fest might just be the best film line up in the World! “Making art accessible for all,” MBIFF welcomes filmmakers and film enthusiasts to this annual event that features networking, forums, food, red carpet interviews, and movie magic — all against the beautiful backdrop of the Market Common in sunny Myrtle Beach.

SOS Spring Safari

April 25-May 4, 2019

Each year at the end of April, shaggers from all along the east coast head to the Grand Strand (the birthplace of shag) for the ten-day SOS Spring Safari. Expect dance parties to pop up at local lounges along Main Street and Ocean Drive, with live music and instructors offering lessons to the masses. This wild event culminates in a parade that brings locals and visitors out for an afternoon of fun and laughter.

14th Annual Mayfest on Main

May 11, 2019

This one-day, rain or shine event draws a large crowd looking to celebrate May and the beginning of summer. While the Myrtle Beach Boardwalk we know and love today officially opened in 2010, this oceanfront destination has a rich history dating back to the 1930’s.

Once a bustling promenade, Hurricane Hazel destroyed the original boardwalk in 1954. The 6.5 million dollar redesign took nearly nine months to build. Recently voted one of National Geographic’s top 10 U.S. boardwalks, it runs 1.2 miles along the oceanfront, from the 2nd Avenue Pier to the 14th Avenue Pier, and is dotted with shops, eateries, and attractions.

Although some things have changed, others remain the same. Here are five must-see landmarks on the Myrtle Beach Boardwalk for both locals and visitors to enjoy!

The Gay Dolphin Gift Cove

A Myrtle Beach institution, this unique store has anchored the boardwalk since 1946, and is called the nation’s largest gift shop for a good reason. Standing at a whopping twenty six thousand square feet, the Gay Dolphin has seven levels of souvenirs, novelty items, and kitschy collectibles, and is a must-see!

Peaches Corner

Since 1937, Peaches Corner has been serving up traditional boardwalk fare, including foot-long hot dogs, juicy burgers, cheese fries, and hand-scooped ice cream favorites. Located at 9th Avenue and Ocean Boulevard, a Grand Strand vacation isn’t complete without a stop at this nostalgic eatery, and a stroll on the beach.

2nd Ave Pier House Restaurant

A day on the pier and playing in the surf can really work up an appetite! The 2nd Avenue Pier House Restaurant serves breakfast, lunch and dinner with a million-dollar view of the Atlantic Ocean. Options include savory sandwiches and salads, fresh seafood, and delicious steaks. Open daily; this establishment is located on the 2nd Avenue Pier, a Myrtle Beach fixture since 1936.

The Bowery

This world-famous oceanfront bar and restaurant has been a part of the Myrtle Beach Boardwalk since 1944, and is one of the coolest places to go for live music. Called the “8th Wonder of the World,” The Bowery is considered the home of country super group Alabama, and has a unique place in music history.

The SkyWheel

The newest kid on the block, this 187-foot tall Ferris wheel opened in 2011, and features 42 glass-enclosed, climate-controlled gondolas. Each sits two to six people, and is fun for all ages. With breath-taking views of the ocean, this Myrtle Beach landmark is truly must-see and is hard to miss!

Have you heard the good news? No, it’s not the recent discovery that the best cure for a cough may actually be chocolate — although that’s pretty amazing too. However, it does have to do with your health. We’re talking about the other big news that’s been trending this week: taking a trip with your girlfriends is good for your health, according to science. And with Galentine’s Day this month, there’s no better time to hit the beach with your BFFs. Here are just a few reasons to plan a Grand Strand Girl’s Weekend today, according to our favorite magazine, Southern Living.

Friendship might just be the key to a longer life. Studies have shown close friendships can extend life expectancy by lowering our risk of heart disease and stress, and even helping us to better tolerate pain.

Friendships make us happier people. Hanging out with friends can increase the body’s production of oxytocin, the feel-good hormone that boosts happiness, trust, and generosity, according to recent research.

Friendships are like the Fountain of Youth. A recent study at Harvard on the health benefits of strong relationships has shown a lack of friendship can lead to cognitive decline as we age, and even premature death, due to an increased risk of depression and dementia.

If you’ve been putting off that much-needed getaway, it’s time to pack your bags and give Vacation Rentals of North Myrtle Beach a call! And in case you need an excuse to take a minibreak, you can tell your boss and your family that it’s good for your health. Check out this featured property for your stay.

There is a great screened in porch so you can relax and enjoy the ocean breeze.
