You finally made it to your destination, checked into your rental property, and are ready to head out for some fun in the sun! The best part about digital photography is that you can take an unlimited amount of photographs during your stay in the Myrtle Beach area. Here are a few tips to help you capture your vacation memories, and make them last long after you return home.
- Admire The View
When traveling, don’t just take in the sights and breathtaking views, but also capture them on camera! If you are willing to step it up from amateur to professional, search for a good wide angle lens of about 10-22mm to help capture those wider landscape photos. A 35mm prime lens would be a good alternative for a more affordable price. Rather than use your expensive zoom lens, the wide angle will allow you to include as much of the surrounding landscape in your photo as possible. Not able to bring a wide-angle lens? Try some panoramic sequences on your digital camera or smartphone that you can piece together later in the editing program of your choice.
- Capture Unforgettable Faces
While it’s easy to get sidetracked capturing new locations with your wide-angle lens, don’t forget to capture special moments of the people that traveled with you! In order to pull this off, use a lens that can get fairly close. Make sure your aperture is wide open, which will give you a nice blurry background that highlights the faces even more. Make sure to focus on the eyes with wide apertures — the most important part of the photograph. A 50mm f/1.4 is the best lens for these types of shots. Not only are they highly affordable, but they will also make it seem effortless to produce quality images.
- Look For Small Details
Sometimes the smallest moments are the best parts of your trip — think footprints in the sand, the way the sunset shines on wild grass, or a particularly beautiful seashell you happen to come across at the beach. Choosing to highlight the little things helps you to remember the more reflective parts of your vacation.
- Wildlife Is All Around
One of the coolest parts about traveling somewhere new is the new wildlife you’ll encounter. Perhaps a little lizard will walk your path, or a small bird you’ve never seen before will emerge from behind a bush. Your friends back home will be quite impressed with the friendly and furry faces you came across during your journey! Shoot for a 200-300mm lens to grab the perfect photo in motion.
- Think Outside The Box
As a photographer you should consider yourself an artist looking for the special unforgettable moments worth capturing. While the person next to you may be taking the 10,000th photograph of that mechanical dinosaur ride, you may choose to walk off the beaten path a bit and capture a photo of an egret at rest along the waterway, or the look on your child’s face when he sees the boardwalk lit up at night.
