“Take me out to the ball game,
Take me out with the crowd;
Buy me some peanuts and Cracker Jack,
I don’t care if I never get back.
Let me root, root, root for the home team,
If they don’t win, it’s a shame.
For it’s one, two, three strikes, you’re out,
At the old ball game.”
Yep. It’s that time of year again folks — Time to play ball in Myrtle Beach! The Myrtle Beach Pelicans are members of the Carolina League, and are a Chicago Cubs Class-A advanced affiliate who have sent numerous players on to the big leagues. The team’s season begins in April and wraps up in September. Now that the weather is heating up, it’s also time to start planning a vacation in the Myrtle Beach area and catch a Pelicans game while you are here. After all, the Pelicans were named the third-best attraction in Myrtle Beach by TripAdvisor — quite a feat when you considerer all the amazing things to do along the Grand Strand! It was also named winner of the 2015 TripAdvisor.com Certificate of Excellence award.
The Pelicans play their home games at TicketReturn.com Field at Pelicans Ballpark, a family friendly stadium where fans of all ages are treated to between-inning entertainment, including a Speed Pitch, Obstacle Course, and Moon Bounce on the concourse. Among other accolades, Stadium Journey ranked the Pelicans as the top stadium experience in the Carolina League for five consecutive seasons (2011 to 2015), and it was also ranked in the top eight in all of Minor League Baseball for the last five seasons. The same publication also placed the Pelicans in the Top 100 Stadium Experiences in all of sports! TicketReturn.com Field at Pelicans Ballpark is located at 1251 21st Avenue North in Myrtle Beach, close to Broadway at the Beach and other cool attractions.
Tickets can be purchased on the Myrtle Beach Pelicans website, or by calling at (877) 918-TIXX. You will also find the 2016 schedule on the website, stats and scores, a full team roster, news, videos, and a link to the Pelicans Pro Shop. There are great promotions all season long, like $2 brews on Tuesdays, Friday Ladies Night, and Family Sundays, amongst others. Most days there is also a pre-game autograph session with Pelicans players, and kids 12 and under can run the bases post-game! More fun and fireworks vary throughout the season, but there is always something happening at the ballpark. For example, in 2005 over 1,800 Myrtle Beach Pelicans fans wore Groucho Marx glasses, breaking the previous record in the Guinness Book of World Records!
On Tuesday, April 19, The Myrtle Beach Pelicans will host the Horry County Special Olympics Spring Games. Approximately 400 Special Olympic athletes from across Horry County will be joined with 400 “buddies” and volunteers to compete in various events. Gates open to the ballpark at 8:15 a.m. and the event is open to the public at no charge.
