Expand your horizons and be sure to add these unique locations to your Myrtle Beach family vacation!

T.I.G.E.R.S. Preservation Station and Wild Encounters Tour

The big cats of the world are waiting for you at T.I.G.E.R.S (The Institute of Greatly Endangered and Rare Species), a free admission wildlife exhibit and living tiger museum at Barefoot Landing in North Myrtle Beach. This preservation station was created as a fundraising effort for the conservation projects of the Rare Species Fund. This opportunity of a lifetime offers close encounters with some of the world’s rarest tigers. Watch as Bengal Tigers, Royal White Bengal Tigers, and the rarest tiger in the world, the Golden Tabby Tiger, as they explore the outdoors with only glass between you and them. Interact personally with tiger cubs, apes, and more!

Support conservation efforts by participating in the T.I.G.E.R.S. Preservation Station photo encounter, which offers you the chance to cuddle up close with a baby tiger or a young ape while they sit on your lap! The photo encounters are $100.00 for 1 person, plus $25.00 for each additional person (any age is welcome to participate). The price includes 1 8×10 photograph per group (groups consisting of 1-5 people). You’ll also have the opportunity to purchase additional prints as well as a photo CD or USB that will include all photos taken during your encounter. All proceeds go directly to supporting international wildlife conservation projects through the Rare Species Fund, as well as to the care and maintenance of animal ambassadors.

For the even more adventurous, take a Myrtle Beach Safari Wild Encounters Tour. This guided walking tour, set on a 50-acre preserve just 17 miles south of Barefoot Landing, is home to over 60 big cats, and the only place in the world to meet the Liger, the world’s largest cat according to the 2014 Guinness Book of World Records. Monkey around with apes, fly trained falcons, and say hello to Bubbles the elephant. You’ll also meet wolves, leopards, chimpanzees, orangutans, and other endangered species, many of them up-close and un-caged. During the tour, professional photographers will be documenting your experience with studio quality photos and video, to give you the opportunity to take home your adventure.

Wild Encounter Tours normally cost $299.00 per person for this unique, once-in-a-lifetime experience, but summer rates can be a bit more. This includes one 8×10 photo from your tour. A CD/DVD combo is also available for purchase at an additional fee, based on the number of people in your group. Visit the Myrtle Beach Safari website for more tour info.

Located adjacent to Barefoot Landing in North Myrtle Beach, Alligator Adventure is one of South Carolina’s most outstanding tourist attractions. What many don’t realize is that Alligator Adventure is more than just gators. Come visit a variety of animals from wolves, to Galapagos tortoises, marmosets and lemurs, bobcats and more!

Between mid-April and mid-October, bring the kids to view 15 foot alligators leap out of the water and devour their dinner! Ask the staff veterinarian Dr. Sam Seashole (aka “The Croc Doc”), any questions you have on gators, and even get an autographed version of his documentary video to take home!
