Although the beach is quite possibly the best playground ever (and literally the world’s biggest sandbox), while vacationing on the Grand Strand, it’s nice to know the places the locals take their kids to swing, spin and climb. Here are a few great playgrounds for families to visit during their stay.

Savannah’s Playground: Considered an enabling playground, this incredible facility features ADA-approved playground equipment and structures designed to provide children of all abilities the opportunity for social interaction. Just one visit and you’ll see why this park is a local favorite. The vast, interactive playground features swings, seated or standing kid-powered zip lines, and even a musical area. But be warned — with so much to do, your kids will want to stay all day! Savannah Park is located in Myrtle Beach, close to the Market Common.

North Myrtle Beach Sports and Rec Complex: Located in Little River, this amazing park offers a diverse selection of sports facilities that accommodate a range of activities, including baseball, softball, lacrosse, soccer, flag football, and quidditch! There are also batting cages, and three playgrounds for families vacationing in North Myrtle Beach to enjoy. On select evenings during the summer season, stay for live music at the amphitheater under the stars, during the Sounds Of Summer Concert Series.

Myrtle Beach State Park: On the southern stretch of Myrtle Beach, you’ll find Myrtle Beach State Park nestled in a picturesque maritime forest along the coastline. Right across from the beach is a quaint playground under a shady canopy of trees (with bathrooms only a short distance away). Myrtle Beach State Park also offers picnic facilities, educational programs, and a nature trail. Admission to the State Park is $5 a day for adults, $3 for children age 6-15, and free for children 5 and younger, so bring your beach towels and sunscreen, and stay awhile!

McLean Park: This beautiful, 10-acre park is located in the heart of Myrtle Beach, 2 blocks west of Ocean Boulevard, and is the site of many of the Parks and Recreation Department’s special events. There are two playgrounds; one designated for 2- 5-year-olds, and a unique “exercise in disguise” Evos™ Playground for 5- 12-year-olds.

Other Great Playgrounds on the Grand Strand include:

  • Chapin Memorial Park: This easy to find playground is located by the Chapin Memorial Library in Myrtle Beach. It features climbing obstacles, slides and swings, and also separate equipment for little ones.
  • Riverfront Park: One of many parks in the historic river town of Conway, close to Myrtle Beach, this cute little playground is a standout for the younger set, thanks to cool equipment shaped like a pirate ship. As the name implies, it is is located near the river, but is thankfully fenced in, with bathrooms nearby.
  • Central Park: This 20-acre park in Myrtle Beach has two great, handicap accessible playgrounds with plenty of space to slide, climb and run. There is also a ¼ mile paved walking path, batting cages, tennis courts, and picnic facilities.\
  • Elsie’s Playground: Located at the ever-popular Broadway at the Beach, Elsie’s Playground (also known as Play Park) is a nice place to take a break with the kids. In a fenced area overlooking Lake Broadway, this narrow park features three play areas for children, and picnic tables for enjoying an afternoon snack. You may even see a few friendly ducks go by!
