There are plenty of reasons to celebrate the City of North Myrtle Beach on any given day, but this May is particularly special. May 2018 marks the 50th Anniversary of this beautiful city, and if you haven’t made your spring travel arrangements yet, now is the time to do so! The celebration will take place in conjunction with one of the area’s most famous free festivals, Mayfest on Main. Head on over to Main Street in North Myrtle Beach on May 12th, from 10AM-6PM, and don’t miss out on the fun!

This one-day, annual event has been held the Saturday before Mother’s Day, rain or shine, for the past thirteen years. Ever popular, it brings in approximately 15,000 people to the Grand Strand, and is fun for all! This year’s festival will feature live entertainment, upscale vendors, arts and crafts, a children’s area, and an amazing free concert!

The 2018 Lineup

In honor of the 50th Anniversary of the City of North Myrtle Beach, there will be a special concert starring 80’s pop sensation, Taylor Dayne! During the course of her career, Taylor has sold more than 75 million albums and singles worldwide, and garnered three GRAMMY nominations. As a singer-songwriter with a distinctly rich voice, she is known for her Top-Ten hits like “Tell It To My Heart,” “Prove Your Love,” “Love Will Lead You Back,” and “With Every Beat of My Heart.”

North Carolina Glam Metal group, FireHouse, will be opening for Taylor Dayne, as well as local beach music group, The Entertainers Band. FireHouse is famous for their singles “Reach For The Sky,” “Don’t Treat Me Bad” and “All She Wrote,” and power ballads like ”Love of a Lifetime” and “When I Look Into Your Eyes.” They won the award for Favorite Heavy Metal/Hard Rock New Artist at the 1992 American Music Awards, and beat out both Nirvana and Alice in Chains.

The Entertainers Band has been performing together since 1980, with numerous regional awards under their belts, including Carolina Beach Music Group of the Year, and Carolina Beach Music Songwriters of the Year, 2014. While staying true to their beach music roots, the group also plays Top-40 favorites, classic rock and roll, and country music selections that are sure to get the audience dancing!

Don’t forget to bring your beach chairs for this free, family-friendly event. The concert begins at noon at the Horseshoe/Main Stage, and parking is also free.

Vacation Rentals of North Myrtle Beach wishes the City of North Myrtle Beach a very Happy 50th Anniversary! We know why vacationers flock to the north end of the Grand Strand each season, but perhaps Trip Advisor said it best:

“Golf, sunbathing and fishing entice vacationers to North Myrtle Beach, which hugs the South Carolina coast at the northern end of its famous Grand Strand strip. In the home of “the shag,” the infectious 1930s dance that still swings through the local clubs, a family-friendly vibe prevails. Explore a nature trail filled with migratory birds, go for thrills at one of the local amusement parks or take in live theater. The mild subtropical climate means that outdoor activities are an option year-round.”
