If you are lucky enough to be in town this weekend, check out the 2nd Annual Myrtle Beach Jazz Festival, running September 29 through October 1, 2017. This free three-day, family-friendly event will will feature the smooth sounds of regional Jazz artists like Marcus Anderson, Gino Castillo, the Mike Frost Band, Don Colton, T-Ray, and James “Bull” Canty. And there’s a lot more fun to be had this coming month in the Myrtle Beach area! From succulent fresh seafood to not-so scary Halloween events, here are seven more family-friendly happenings on the Grand Strand this October!

Myrtle Beach Seafood Festival

The 2nd Annual Myrtle Beach Seafood Festival will be held October 6 and 7, 2017 on Ocean Boulevard. Sample delectable dishes from area seafood vendors, and enjoy live music, a car show, and a corn hole tournament at this fun fall festival. There will also be a Kids Zone, with bounce houses, carnival games, slides and other activities. The festival will take place at the Burroughs and Chapin Pavilion Place, located between 8th and 9th Avenues North in Myrtle Beach. Admission is free. The hours are 6-9PM on Friday, and 11-7PM on Saturday.

Thompson Farm’s Corn Maze

This 6-acre corn maze is a treat for both young and old. Opening weekend is October 6 through 8, with daytime and evening hours. Ticket prices vary by day and time, and include the corn maze, tricycle track, giant jump pad, duck races, horse swings, animal feedings, hay wagon rides, giant corn box, tire playground, balance beam, giant slides, picnic area, bull roping, mouse races, and more.

Harvest Home Weekend Festival

The Harvest Home Weekend Festival at Brookgreen Gardens will take place this year on October 7 and 8. There will be hayrides, scarecrow building, pumpkin painting, and food served under a big tent. Entertainment will include a performance by Emmy Award Winning Children’s Entertainer Farmer Jason, as well as wool spinning demonstrations, sidewalk chalking, “Not So Spooky” boat rides, and special take-home craft activities just for kids. The butterfly house will be open all day, with some new butterflies just for the fall season. The festival is included in garden admission, with some activities requiring an additional fee.

Little River ShrimpFest

The Little River ShrimpFest is held annually on the 2nd weekend of October at the Historic Little River Waterfront, which falls on October 14 and 15 this year. There will be a children’s area, face painting, stilt walkers, balloon artists, two stages of live music, and approximately 150 arts and crafts vendors — and fresh seafood served up by local waterfront restaurants, of course. Admission is $5 per person each day, from 9AM-6PM on Saturday, and from 9AM-5PM on Sunday. Kids 12 and under get in for free.

Truck-Or-Treat

This interactive event lets families look, see, and touch emergency vehicles, trash trucks, big rigs and more! Kids are encouraged to explore and ask questions about the vehicles on display. There will also be a horn-free hour from 10-11AM, a costume contest, and trick-or-treating with all the vendors. Food, bouncy houses, carousel rides, a petting zoo and train rides will also be available. Truck-Or-Treat will take place on October 14, 2017, from 10AM-3PM at Broadway at the Beach, near WonderWorks. Then come back to Broadway on Halloween, from 4:30PM-6:30PM, to trick-or-treat again!

Howl-O-Scream  

On October 28, 2017, from 5-8PM, the North Myrtle Beach Park and Sports Complex will transform into a spooky spot for all ages. There will be an array of Halloween activities, including hayrides, marshmallow roasting, trick-or-treating, and much more.  Best of all, there will be Scare-Free Zones for little ones (and the faint-hearted), and Scare Zones for thrill seekers. Admission is $2 for anyone over the age of 15, $1 for ages 5-14, and free for kids age 4 and under, not including concessions.

BooFest!

Head over to Barefoot Landing this October 29 for BooFest! This family-friendly afternoon event will take place from noon to 4PM, and will include a costume contest for kids and pets, face painting, a balloon artist, and more seasonal fun! Barefoot landing will also host trick-or-treating on Halloween night, from 5-7PM.
